Industry giants look to quantum to optimise operations
Seven leading businesses have joined Digital Catapult’s latest quantum innovation accelerator to fast track the development of solutions and accelerate the practical application of deep tech. Aiming to help solve complex market challenges in major sectors of the UK economy including transport, defence and telecommunications, the programme convenes unique quantum capabilities and innovation consultancy to de-risk technology adoption.

Eight innovators selected for Bristol Temple Meads testbed
Connected Places Catapult, the UK’s Innovation Accelerator for cities, transport and place leadership has today announced the latest organisations to join the Station Innovation Zone programme. Eight organisations with concepts aimed at enhancing accessibility, sustainability, personal safety, and overall passenger experience have been selected to develop proposals to trial their innovations at Bristol Temple Meads.
In the coming months, Connected Places Catapult will support the selected organisations as they progress through the Station Innovation Zone —a multi-million-pound programme hosted at Bristol Temple Meads in partnership with Network Rail. Early next year, three will be selected to move forward to live trials with their ideas being tested at the station.

Entopy invited to trial its digital twin technology at Glasgow airport
Technology firm Entopy has been selected to trial its AI-enabled digital twin at Glasgow Airport to help the operator better manage the site’s infrastructure and operations in the face of an expected increase in passenger movements at the site.
The digital twin platform is designed to identify congestion pinch points on the surrounding roads, in car parks, in the airport terminal and at the gates; providing a future-focused means of strategic decision-making to ease the flow of people.

Last week, over 30 students and teachers from South Wales attended a careers forum at Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, to learn about the wide range of career opportunities in the region.
At the forum, speakers from IQE, KLA, Vishay and Microchip introduced the technology each company develop and its role in the compound semiconductor supply chain.

New solution set to decarbonise the UK’s transport-logistics sector
Digital Catapult, a deep tech innovation organisation, has announced the results of a pilot programme it delivered to address the environmental impact of empty trucks on roads across the country. The initiative trialled a new solution to decarbonise the transport-logistics sector, demonstrating a potential to cut CO2e emissions by 15-30%.

UK needs bold and ambitious industrial strategy
Katherine Bennett, CEO of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, has welcomed the launch of the government’s new industrial strategy saying it must be ‘bold and ambitious’.
Business and Trade Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds, and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, have published a green paper to kickstart delivery of the industrial strategy, the first in seven years.
The key sectors the government will focus on are: advanced manufacturing; clean energy industries, creative industries; defence; digital and technologies; financial services; life sciences; and professional and business services.

Our Northern Ireland Space Enterprise Lab (SEL) was launched at Queen’s University Belfast’s AMIC Harbour site providing users with access to the latest collaborative technology, resources and expertise – the latest addition to the Satellite Applications Catapult’s UK wide network. This new addition ensures that technology and support are accessible to innovators and businesses based in Northern Ireland and connected to our other SELs nationwide. Merger of Agri-Tech Centres paves way for future Catapult ambitions
Innovate UK is working with its three Agri-Tech Centres to create a new integrated capability.
The three Agri-Tech Centres are Crop Health and Protection, Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock and Agricultural Engineering, Precision and Innovation Centre.
This new single entity will facilitate a stronger cross-sectoral approach and drive better outcomes for the agri-tech sector across innovation, commercialisation, and adoption, as well as research. Together they are being invited to develop a proposal to establish an agri-tech Catapult, to complement the work of the existing nine Catapults.
