Utilising energy data is key to develop resilient local energy systems, integrating intermittent renewable energy and lowering the whole system cost. Through the Modernising Energy Data Application competition, UKRI has funded nine innovative projects to develop new products and user-centric services using energy data.
Two years on from the publication of the Energy Data Taskforce report A Strategy for a Modern Digitalised Energy System, we look back on the progress so far. In this webinar we will discuss the 5 original recommendations, action that has been taken across the sector and consider if the original objectives have been achieved.
In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day, CSA Catapult will be hosting ‘At the Forefront of Innovation’ on Tuesday 22nd June and will be joined by a panel of female engineers, who are collaborating on projects and developing next-generation technology. The theme for this year’s INWED 2021 is #Engineering Heroes, which the Women’s Engineering Society describe as ‘the best, brightest and bravest women in engineering, who recognise a problem, then dare to be part of the solution’. Our panellists will discuss influential role models and the challenges they face when driving forward innovation. Speakers include Dr Fatemeh Hoveizavi, Senior Engineer at CSA Catapult, Leesa Kingman, Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer at Arralis and Professor Merlyne De Souza, Chair in Microelectronics at University of Sheffield.
The medicines industry is in a period of change. While small molecule therapeutics still make up 90% of approved medicines, patient expectations are driving the industry towards targeted, precision treatments, which require a shift towards stratified, complex medicines with more challenging discovery and development needs.
The Made Smarter Technology Accelerator is at the forefront of industrial innovation, it has been developed to pair manufacturers with technology companies so they can take advantage of advanced technology to radically alter, and improve, the way we approach manufacturing.
As our population ages, it’s clear we have to act now. By 2050, a quarter of the UK population will be over 65. Right now, it’s less than 15%. That means we need to make significant changes to ensure healthy ageing for all. And it’s not just our population that’s ageing. By 2050, 80% of our housing stock will consist of preexisting buildings and be the oldest housing stock in Europe. We must be both innovative and practical as we build a healthier future for the UK. With the right technologies and innovative care solutions, we can get more from our homes for longer.
DCMS and Ofcom have funded the SmartRAN Open Network Interoperability Centre (SONIC Labs) as part of the 5G Diversification Strategy, focusing on key areas of interoperability and integration to examine the reality of Open RAN and successive, relevant technologies and enable and encourage innovative vendors to participate in the UK ecosystem. Following on from the introduction to SONIC Labs earlier this year, join us on Thursday 24 June when Digital Catapult and Ofcom, with our SONIC Labs consortium partners – Accelleran, Mavenir, Radisys, Benetel, Phluido, Druid and Effnet – present SONIC Labs Live. This is the official centre launch and experimentation will begin in new end to end mobile solutions to support DCMS’ diversification strategy. Open networks and Open RAN in particular is an area of considerable interest and activity with huge potential, and it will be key for the future of networking, and opportunities for innovators in the UK and beyond.
